Regional Executive News
By the time you read this, many from the Michigan Region will know that there is something new that we have been working on. It materialized last fall when Dwight and Erica from Theodore’s Timing confirmed that they were retiring from the business and were willing to donate their equipment to the Michigan Region. I took a straw vote during that final speed event last year and there appeared to be enough interest within the region to support this. A “Timing Committee” was formed, and we started planning.
Finally, the big day came on April 2, 2023, when we met with Dwight and Erica for a training session and the hand-off of the equipment. From there the equipment was temporarily stored and set up in my workshop. The committee met and trained on the equipment on April 23rd and again on May 13th. During the May 2nd regional meeting, it was agreed that we would fund a computer upgrade and other improvements to increase the speed and improve the reliability of the system. A new computer was purchased along with a large format monitor and other accessories. This was configured and put into use during a regional training event on May 20th. Then, on May 21st, we ran a test and tune session using the updated equipment. The event was a success and proved that we were ready to time live events using the donated and updated equipment.
This endeavor turned out to require a little more effort than first envisioned. However, the payoffs will be large. Each club in the region now has access to a state-of-the-art timing system that can be used for any autocross event being held. I would like to express my sincere thanks to the entire Timing Committee and all the other members who helped to make this system a reality for our region.
In closing, I would like to wish everyone a safe and rewarding competition season.
