From Our Regional Executive
We are now two months into the new year and the new decade. I am settling in as the new 2020 Regional Executive (RE) for the Michigan Region. Last week, I chaired my first Regional Meeting and then attended the National Meeting. What an exciting time that was! It was definitely more work than I had imagined but also more fun than I had hoped for.
With that said, I would like to thank our retiring RE, Mark Hanlin, for his years of service to the Michigan Region of the NCCC. Mark has helped many people, including myself, with learning about and enjoying what NCCC has to offer. Over the years, Mark has been a guiding light and has become a good friend for many of us. We will continue to see Mark as the governor of the Calhoun County Corvettes and at the events that he either organizes or attends. Again, thank you to Mark for all that you have done for us.
Also leaving the NCCC Michigan Region board is Brenda Shatkosky. Brenda has been the Treasurer for several years and has made great improvements to our financial record keeping. I would like to thank Brenda for her much appreciated service with this thankless and often difficult job.
I would also like to thank our returning NCCC Michigan Region Board members and directors that have worked so hard to make this organization what it is today. Dave Waters is our returning Regional Competition Director (RCD) and continues to help make all of our events a success. Joe Scafero is our returning Regional Membership Director (RMD) and he continues to help all of our Governors get their jobs done correctly and on time. Edna Stoel is returning as the Regional Secretary and will continue supporting the RE along with providing much of our needed documentation. Gloria Reiffer is our returning Webmaster and has done a great job with updating our website and helping the board with setting up email accounts specific to our positions. Sue Sweet is returning as our Points Director. Sue has always done a great job at keeping track of the competition points and organizing the awards. I know that there is much more that each of these individuals contribute to the organization and they all deserve a sincere thank you.
Finally, I would like to welcome Kathy Duncan as our new Regional Treasurer. Kathy is a fairly new member to our Corvette community and was gracious enough to take on this responsibility.
Moving on, there is still snow on the ground in most parts of Michigan even though it has been unseasonably warm this winter. However I do occasionally see a Corvette on the roads. Interestingly enough, most of the Corvettes that I have seen here in SE Michigan have been examples of the new eighth generation! I believe these to be factory cars that are possibly still being evaluated or tested. Speaking of the new Corvette, we can now place orders for a new one but, I am told that most of the initial production units are already spoken for.
Well anyway, if you are like me, your Corvettes will most likely be put away for a little while longer. The good part of this is that the winter months are slower and can be a great time to make repairs and do any needed maintenance on your Corvette. That way, the cars are sure to be ready for all the activities that start up in the spring.
Speaking of spring, the Michigan Region has scheduled its 2019 Awards Banquet for Saturday April 25, 2020. The flyer for this (and other regional events) is available on the Michigan Region web site at www.micorvette.org. Along with the banquet, Calhoun County Corvettes will once again be hosting a non sanctioned rookie driving school for novice drivers. The school will take place on May 16, 2020 and the flyer for this should soon be on the website. The driving schools are a great way to learn about low speed autocross or even to simply learn a little more about driving your Corvette. Along with the events above, the various clubs in the Michigan Region have already bid for 81 autocross, 19 rally, and 11 people’s choice events. It is shaping up to be another great season in the Michigan Region.
In closing, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2020.
