Michigan Region - NCCC

Sitting down to write this, I am wondering where did the year go? Fortunately, the slow down due to Covid-19 is mostly a thing of the past and, we were able to get back to a more traditional year. And now, as we are moving into winter, the Corvette season in Michigan is over and our cars are being prepared for storage.

Throughout the 2022 season, we had a lot of fun and exciting events. Early in the year, IHCC held a charity car show. The rain kept all but 15 cars away but, even so, nearly $1,000 was raised and donated to the charity. Towards the end of the season, MAG held a 14 event Funkhana. I have to say that the Funkhana was the most fun I have had with a Corvette in quite a while. This is just two examples of the great number of events held in the Michigan region this year.

The fun was not without its difficulties. As with most regions, we are having a hard time finding venues for our Autocross and other events. Prices for some locations have risen from a few hundred dollars per day to as much as $1,500 per day for some of the locations. And prices are likely to keep increasing to the point where it will no longer be affordable to host events like this. In he meantime, some clubs have had to travel much farther to new venues that are still somewhat affordable.

Unfortunately, the venues are not the only obstacle for future Autocross events. It was recently announced that the team at Theodore’s Timing was retiring at the end of this season. Theodore’s Timing has been doing the Autocross timing for many of our clubs for several decades. The Michigan Region is currently working with Theodore’s Timing on a path forward. Additional details will be available soon. In any case I would like to extend a thank you to Dwight Theodore, Erica Theodore, and the rest of the team at Theodore’s Timing for their years of dedication and a job well done.

In closing, I would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year.
